Danny had his first interview Oakland University in Michigan while I was in Nauvoo. This worked out perfectly since I hate not seeing him and it consolidated out time apart (how am I going to deal with med school??). The school is about 40 minutes outside of Detroit in a really pretty town called Rochester.
I have been googling the town and apartments for a few weeks and I am really digging it. It has a really gorgeous Main Street (I'm a sucker for red brick) and a lot of parks. Also, there is an LDS Temple just 20 minutes away and the couple Danny stayed with really love their ward. I was also excited about the prospect of a three bedroom apartment for under $900 in a good neighborhood near campus! So there are just a few of the specs on the William Beaumont School of Medicine from the point of view of the wife.
Danny actually really loved the school. He was really impressed with how high tech everything there was. All incoming students get a Mac with their tuition because everything they do it streamed. They have one of the biggest cadaver labs in the country (gross) and they were on the top 100 list of the US News in 15 categories (which is pretty unheard of). AMCAS is actually using Oakland as one of its four school to build curriculum around which is pretty cool. So D liked it, he felt good about it and that is really exciting.
The interview went well but who knows! We are just here keeping our fingers crossed for an acceptance. We will just have to wait and see...I hate this part.
Sidenote, D has also started his Air Force application. Luckily, we can use most of our stuff from last year that never got sent in to the committee. We also found out that D is in the MCAT and GPA range that he can get an immediate acceptance rather than having to wait for the committee to meet in the spring! If you/hubby are looking in to this option you should meet with a recruiter ASAP.
